The Stillwater Police Department (SPD) Chaplain Corps consists of six local pastors
who volunteer their time both to members of SPD and to the citizens of Stillwater. The
purpose of the Corps is to provide a variety of services based upon the Chaplains'
individual skills and training. Some of these services include:
- Confidential counseling
- Visiting the sick and bereaved
- Domestic dispute intervention
- Suicide intervention
- Consultations and training
- Death notifications
- Officer debriefing (following critical stress incidents)
Currently, the Chaplains rotate through an "on-call" list, one of whom
remains available on a 24-hour basis. Upon a request for their services, the Chaplain
on-call is contacted either by a dispatcher from Central Communications, or an officer may
contact them directly. Thus, the on-call Chaplain may arrive on the scene of a
call-for-service with the officer handling the call, or arrive to the location themselves,
depending on each individual request.
