Crime Analysis

The Crime Analysts looks at trends and patterns in criminal activity. This involves statistical and analytical research using a variety of computer applications. These include an understanding of random statistical sampling, correlation and regression analysis, factor analysis, and probability studies. The analysts gathers and analyzes crime data for crime pattern detection, suspect-crime correlation's, target-suspect profiles, and crime forecasting.

This information not only helps investigators solve crimes, but also assists the Training Unit by forecasting future training needs. The information assists the Patrol Division by providing needs for increased patrol, and assists the Crime Prevention Unit by collecting information to be disseminated to community and neighborhood watch groups. Much of the annual Department budget process involves information from the Crime Analysis Unit and it's ability to forecast future criminal trends.
