The Stillwater Police Department Motorcycle Unit is comprised
of two police officers. Because of their ease of maneuverability, motorcycles have become a valuable resource in improving the safety of our city streets through diligent enforcement of traffic laws. They are also frequently utilized during special events such as parade or marathon escorts. Though motorcycle officers are also patrol officers and respond to calls for service and emergencies, their primary focus is on traffic enforcement and safety.
In order to be selected for motorcycle patrol, an officer must be a police officer for a minimum of 18 months, submit an application upon announcement of the opening and undergo a testing process. Once selected, the officer will attend a motorcycle patrol academy to develop their skills and understanding of tactics related to operations of a police motorcycle, including emergency driving. The Stillwater Police Department currently operates Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles.
