| CID operates one of the finest psychological service units available. The unit began
with the recruitment of a local university psychologist for "volunteer" work assessing applicant
personality tests. Today our Police Psychologist wears many hats. His volunteer duties include profiling of
events, suspects, and potential of violence assessments. As a certified police officer,
our psychologist completed advanced training from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the
United States Air Force, and also serves as a consultant to the Department Crisis
Negotiation Team. Having these resources available allows investigators to be sensitive
to collecting psychological as well as physical evidence from crime scenes. Investigators
now regularly collect evidence such as hate, anger, rage, experience, sexuality, love, and
compassion left behind by the behavior of criminals.
Aside to investigative duties, the psychologist assists with post critical incident
debriefing, training, and individual counseling. He often operates in the role of
consultant in assisting Command Staff with decisions regarding personnel. Finally,
he provides counseling at no charge to officers on a confidential basis.
